When we sit down with a family, we have just one goal: to create a fitting, memorable, and affordable service for their loved one. Together, we explore the wide variety of services and products available, as well as a wealth of creative ideas and suggestions.
Together, we'll design a memorial or funeral service that suits their needs now and in the future. Families who come to us know that years from now they will have deep peace-of-mind because in coming to us, they've done their best to honor their loved one.

Our Valued Staff

David W Bolyard Jr., Owner/Managing Director
Dave Bolyard, Jr., from Newburg, WV, graduate from Preston High School in 1993, attended Fairmont State University and graduated from the Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science. Throughout college and upon graduation, he worked for Taylor Funeral Home for approximately four years. The experience working with Richard Taylor taught Bolyard much about the mortuary business. Following his stint with Taylor, Bolyard went to work for Davis Funeral Home in Clarksburg, WV, and then went on to manage their sister funeral home, Bartlett Funeral Home, in Grafton, WV. When Bartlett Funeral Home was bought by the Loewen Group, a large funeral conglomerate, their ideals of personal funeral service were not the same as Dave's, so he left the funeral business and went to Tennessee. While in Tennessee, he began working at First Tennessee in entry level positions and was soon promoted to the position of personal banker and branch manager. He then joined Bank of America in management and ran several offices and received numerous awards for outstanding performance over several years. He also ranked nationally in the top one to five percent in the company. With the illness of his grandmother in 2005, he transferred with Bank of America to Dulles, Virginia for a short period of time while he traveled between VA and WV on the weekends. It wasn't until spring of 2006 when his grandmother passed away that Dave felt the call to return home and opened a state of the art funeral home in southern Preston County. He approached the Newburg Fire Department regarding the purchase of land across the street from the fire station where he was given the opportunity to purchase the two buildings already existing on the site. While plans were in process of being finalized, David moved to Alexandria, VA and worked in the Global Wealth and Investment area for Premier Banking as a Client Manager. He continued that until September of 2008 and then moved back to WV and started working as a Trust & Investment officer for First United Bank and Trust covering North Central West Virginia. All during his period in Nashville and over the last few years, he did a large amount off work in real estate with rehabbing and selling several homes and keeping some for rental. That experience helped him to put the plans together for his funeral home in Newburg which he opened in the fall of 2007. He later bought the Rotruck-Lobb Funeral Home and Taylor Chapel in Newburg in September of 2008. He then renovated that building into the home of the new Preston-Taylor main billing office and the Newburg Clinic. David is always looking for opportunity, and he left the bank in December 2008 to work for himself full time and look at continuing to expand. While working with Morgan Mayfield and rehabbing a house in Reedsville, the opportunity came to expand into Grafton and Clarksburg. That opportunity became a reality in April of 2009 when the company accepted the bid, and he and Morgan started working for the funeral homes during transition until the closing on July 20, 2009. David is the operating manager for Mountain Funeral Group and was and integral part of putting the group together. Dave looks forward to his part in Mountain Funeral Group because he believes it will be beneficial to the families he serves. He says that by pooling their resources, all four funeral homes that make up Mountain Funeral Group will be able to provide the families we serve with a wider and more affordable selection of services and funeral goods. The key is to use your growth for purchase power, which is passed on to families, while still retaining the “small town” personal relationships with the families you serve. David is very active in the community: He is President of the Preston Memorial Hospital Foundation and President of the Preston County Commission Building Committee. He is very active in volunteering his time to many organizations and supporting many of the community organizations across the county and surrounding counties.

Jason says he believes the most important aspect of funeral service is the families and care taken with their loved ones. During this most vulnerable time in their lives, it’s important that the family be able to trust in the honesty and integrity of the funeral director. Jason is a 4th degree Knight of Columbus and is a member of the NFDA. He currently resides in Harrison County with his wife and two young children.
Sean Maier, Owner/Funeral Director
Sean Maier graduated from John A. Gupton College of Mortuary Science in Nashville, TN, in 1995. Upon being licensed in Tennessee, he was contracted by his Alma Mater to assist in teaching students of John A. Gupton College of Mortuary Science the art of embalming. He began his career with Marshall, Donnelly and Combs Funeral Home in Nashville, TN where he worked until 2001. He accepted a position with Hastings Funeral Home in Morgantown, WV in 2001 to be closer to family. While continuing his career, he also has had the opportunity to do contract work for several other funeral homes in the surrounding area including: Ford Funeral Homes in Fairmont and Bridgeport, WV; Morgan Funeral Home in Reedsville, WV; Bolyard Funeral Home in Newburg, WV; and Wright Funeral Home, in Terra Alta, WV. In 2002 Sean became a licensed cremationist and operated Omega Crematory for Hastings Funeral Home. He married Jacci Harris Maier in 1997. They reside in Grafton, WV and are the parents of four children. In 2002, he and his wife Jacci purchased Bloomers Florist, an established floral business, in Grafton. He graduated with honors from the Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science in 1979. After finishing his education, Morgan Mayfield took over the family business and had the new facility built in 2000 at its present location. He began his career working for his family owned Morgan Funeral Home but also worked for Taylor Funeral Home in Newburg, WV. When Mr. Richard Taylor fell ill prior to his retirement, Morgan assisted him by taking care of all the day to day business needs for approximately four years. Morgan resides in Reedsville, WV. He also has done contract work for Mancinelli Funeral Home in Morgantown, WV; Browning Funeral Home in Kingwood, WV; and Hastings Funeral Home in Morgantown, WV. He has been a parade marshal for the Preston County Buckwheat Frestival for over 25 years. He continues to serve the people of Preston and surrounding counties with the same dedicated service taught to him by his grandfather, mother, and father. He is an avid sportsman having been an Elk Hunting guide in Wyoming and Idaho. He is a life member of the NRA, an amateur photographer, and enjoys waterskiing. His philosophy is, “Try to put yourself in that first row, where a family is sitting during a funeral service, so that you might always remember how they are feeling during this difficult time and so that you are able to serve them in a way that will help ease the pain of losing a loved one."

She served in several capacities including funeral assistant, office manager, and family service counselor. When both Bartlett Funeral Home and Davis Funeral Home were bought by the Loewen Group, a large funeral conglomerate, their ideals of personal funeral service were not the same as Carolyn's. She accepted employment with another privately owned funeral home in 1997 and remained there until she accepted a temporary position as a program assistant with the Veterans Administration Cemetery System (WV National Cemetery). At the end of this temporary assignment she went to work for the United States Department of Agriculture as a program technician. In 2005, due to federal budget cuts brought on by the cost of the war, her job was eliminated. For the last several years, she worked as a legal assistant in a law office until she got the call from former co-worker David Bolyard, who asked her to come to work for the Mountain Funeral Group in a dual role: as an administrative assistant to the group's partners and as a family service counselor. Carolyn is an active member of community organizations. She has served as treasurer for the Grafton Rotary Club and is a past (and present) secretary for the Paradise Cove Community Center.
